Beam me up

Just saw an article in the Indy Star that the pentagon (home of the $700 toilet seat, and protector of our national virtue) is funding research into the feasibility of teleportation. Yeah, like in Star Trek.

So, before you break out laughing too hard, consider the following. Rocket ships, radar, television, stealth technology, microwave ovens, and fax machines were all part of science fiction long before they were even considered possible by the scientific community.

Having said that, all I can picture is Jeff Goldblum swinging from the rafters, losing an ear, and sprouting wings.

So, let's see..............

$25,000 to research Spock at a control panel. At least that's a bomb or two that we aren't making and dropping.

Lawyers Against the War

Get one thing straight. I personally think that lawyers should be subject to a tithe. Only ten percent of them should be allowed to live.

That said, I must applaud one particular group of lawyers. Unfortunately they don't live in the U.S. There is a group of lawyers in Canada that is pushing to get George W. arrested for war crimes when he visits the country. Their reasoning is that Canadian law bars entry to those who have engaged in "gross violations of human rights."

Enough said.

Barefoot and Pregnant

I've been looking at various editorials over the past few days. I've also been looking at a couple of electoral college maps. The more I read, and the more I research, the more I think that I've got it figured out.

It used to be common practice to keep "womenfolk" barefoot and pregnant.

When I read commentaries about various programs and beliefs espoused by the "ruling party" I am terrified by the fact that we are apparently returning to this philosophy. Anti-gay legislation, anti-women's rights legislation, anti-education legislation, government forced religion, removal of sex education from the schools, elimination of birth control education. These are just of few of the tools being used to keep us "dumb and on the farm".

It seems to me that we are falling into a pattern that will be very hard to break. The government is currently dumbing us down. We are being pushed into a mentality straight out of "East of Eden". We climbed out of the twentieth century only to be pushed back into the nineteenth. Now, here comes the really scary part. The people that we are creating are the ones that will continue to vote for this type of mind set.

Don't get me wrong. I am fully in favor of each and every one of us being able to think or worship as he / she chooses. That apparently makes me in the minority. This country was founded on the principle that each of us has the right to choose.

We are losing that choice.

As Seen on TV

I had a customer in the store yesterday that was asking about a specific product on the shelf. He was comparing this "unknown" brand of food processor to the industry standard. He commented that he had never heard of the unknown. I explained that the company was an "As Seen on TV" brand, everything that they make is shown on the infomercials first. After it has worn out it's novelty on the air it is released into the stores. His eyes lit up and he grabbed it off the shelf and ran to the register.

You know you're a hill-jack if...........
